Why Beautiful Women Marry Less Attractive Men

Interesting report below (haha...) :

Why Beautiful Women Marry Less Attractive Men

Jeanna Bryner
LiveScience Staff Writer
LiveScience.com
Thu Apr 10, 11:25 AM ET

Women seeking a lifelong mate might do well to choose the guy a notch below them in the looks category. New research reveals couples in which the wife is better looking than her husband are more positive and supportive than other match-ups.

The reason, researchers suspect, is that men place great value on beauty, whereas women are more interested in having a supportive husband.

Researchers admit that looks are subjective, but studies show there are some universal standards, including large eyes, "baby face" features, symmetric faces, so-called average faces, and specific waist-hip ratios in men versus women.

Past research has shown that individuals with comparable stunning looks are attracted to each other and once they hook up they report greater relationship satisfaction. These studies, however, are mainly based on new couples, showing that absolute beauty is important in the earliest stages of couple-hood, said lead researcher James McNulty of the University of Tennessee. But the role of physical attractiveness in well-established partnerships, such as marriage, is somewhat of a mystery.

The new study, published in the February issue of the Journal of Family Psychology, reveals looks continue to matter beyond that initial attraction, though in a different way.

Supportive spouses

McNulty's team assessed 82 couples who had married within the previous six months and had been together for nearly three years prior to tying the knot. Participants were on average in their early to mid-20s.

Researchers videotaped as each spouse discussed with their partner a personal problem for 10 minutes. The tapes were analyzed for whether partners were supportive of spouses' issues, which included goals to eat healthier, to land a new job and to exercise more often.

"A negative husband would've said, 'This is your problem, you deal with it,'" McNulty said, "versus 'Hey, I'm here for you; what do you want me to do?; how can I help you?'"

A group of trained "coders" rated the facial attractiveness of each spouse on a scale from 1 to 10, with the perfect 10 representing the ultimate babe. About a third of the couples had a more attractive wife, a third a more attractive husband and the remaining partners showed matching looks.

Trophy wives

Overall, wives and husbands behaved more positively when the woman was better looking.

The finding "seems very reasonable," said Dan Ariely, a professor of behavioral economics at MIT's Program in Media Arts and Sciences and Sloan School of Management. "Men are very sensitive to women's attractiveness. Women seem to be sensitive to men's height and salary," said Ariely, who was not involved in the recent study.

In couples with more attractive husbands, both partners were less supportive of one another. McNulty suggests wives mirror, in some ways, the level of support they get from husbands.

"The husband who's less physically attractive than his wife is getting something more than maybe he can expect to get," McNulty told LiveScience. "He's getting something better than he's providing at that level. So he's going to work hard to maintain that relationship."

Men who are more attractive than their partners would theoretically have access to partners who are more attractive than their current spouses, McNulty said. The "grass could be greener" mentality could make these men less satisfied and less committed to maintain the marriage.

Physical attractiveness of husbands is not as important to women, the researchers suggest. Rather, wives are looking for supportive husbands, they say.

So it seems the mismatch in looks is actually a perfect match. "Equitable is unlikely to mean the same on every dimension," Ariely said during a telephone interview. "It just means that overall two people make sense together."

Why I go to church?

There are friends who ask me why I want to go to church. I haven't given them a proper answer yet. I shall answer it here. I go to church to feed my soul with God's words, so that it can enable to be a better fighter for the week ahead. "In the world but not of the world." How easy it is to say this out. It really hard to do it; really hard especially in this postmodern world.

It is like refilling oil for my lamp that is sufficient for a week long (or perhaps less especially with so many temptations around), lighting my surrounding. It is like providing strength for a goodfight needed in the week ahead.

Today is resurrection day. It reminds all people of all nations and all tongues of the hope that was promised 2000 years ago.

I wish all of you well and have a good week ahead!

Investment / make money books VS Christian related books

Recently I have some inner conflicts whether to choose those make money (e.g investment) type of book to read or choose books related to my own faith to read. I have spent many years devoting my free time reading the my own faith books. When I see people who use the same years investing their time to books and article about financial stuff and become more knowledge on making money and more better off, I would sometimes envy them and sometimes regret why I did not follow them.

Lord, please delivers me from temptation.

Amen.

Haiz.. finally he speaks. Actuallly there is a class gathering tomorrow. I don't feel like going. He always adopts the "You go then I go" policy. He even encourage me to go since many are going and we haven't seen them for years. When I told him I am not going, he insisted not to go because I didn't but he sounded like he wanted to go. So I encouraged him to go lo and keep me updated what is happening in their life. He told me these and I never expect these from him:

"why shd i? unless u pay me for doing so....nothing is free in this world"

"u want (me) to go and collect info for you foc....no way man!"

I'm quite disappointed with what he told me. I have got nothing to gain knowing how is everybody doing right now. It is good to be aware how my classmates are doing right now. Also, it does not tally with what he said "It is good that we go since we haven't seen them for years."

It seems to be a follow up of my previous post. Finally I wake up from my long sleep . . . trying hard to tell myself that this is not how the society works . . .

I begin to realize ...

Regardless of race and religion,

I begin to realize that it never pays to be a good, nice and honest person ...
It is just a superficial way of projecting ourselves out of rules governed and required by the society as a whole. It does not benefit us unless the "rules of exchange" set in - people waiting for this to take place until they are sick of each other.

I begin to realize that it never pays to concern others ...
People who play concern are due to intelligence purposes -- out to collect information and at the same time to kill time. Some may act out of rules set by the society. Some waiting for the time when they can benefit from it.

I begin to realize that all along I am sleeping in the lala land that think otherwise ... all along, I have been like a fool... suddenly wake up from a long sleep, realizing that the world is even more a frightening place to live in than I had before painted .. All along, I have seen and believed the false side of people - the side which their inner voice call them to be in but failed to achieve. I am wrong about many things I used to believe in and think of.

No matter what has happened to the people, the society and the world around, I know the faith that I have firmly believe in is unshakable. I will stand by it even if I have given in to the other voice - with one leg being shot, limping towards the destination. The light may be getting dimmer but it will never be put out.

Digress ...

End of my 3443 night shift duty

Today is my rest day to adjust back to my normal sleeping hours. Tomorrow back to normal day working and thinking about the "battles" I have for this week and the amount of accumulated work.. I sianz.. I am still thinking.. why does God want to put us in this position? Really no other way? Might as well don't create us? haiz.. When times are bad, or in a bad situation or morale super low or at a lost where to go in life, we will tend to think about these questions de. When times are good, people may forget that is it God Who provides de or just say out the usually phrase "感谢赞美主!" or "Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!" like saying the magic words "Thank You" or "Sorry" like that.. Haiz.. be positive jnwk, life here is a "short while" only..

"You are still young"

Recently, probably a few weeks ago, I went to bank A and B to do some transactions. Both told me to me to listen to their financial adviser or consultant for their financial plans.

Bank A
They told me to go listen to their protection cum savings plan. Need to hold for 15 years. I told them that their scheme too long. They told me "You are still young" and blah blah.. -_-

Bank B
They told me if I am interested in their 5 years deposits due to their higher interest rates (guarantee for 6 months only) and referred me to their financial consultant. After listening, oh it is a structured deposit. I told them the plan too long liao. He told me "You are still young" and blah blah.. -_- Then he went on to introduce me to other 4 to 5 of their plans. In the end, I did not apply for any and simply did what I want and left.

Hmm.. thinking.. Same strategy, same words. Learn from the same master, perhaps. Haiz.. Maybe it is time to think about some financial planning. These days, money never enough. Inflation keeps on raising.

Making money on the internet by clicking ads - Bux.to

I don't know. God must be anwering my post (and in this way, I cause others to make money also... hehe). I just received a message from someone I don't even know in the gladiatus about making extra money over the internet by clicking ads. I made some research and it seems safe (You can try reading this and make your own research: link). So I decide to joined the alertpay and bux.to to try. Ok la.. it seems to be a way to make a small amount of money. If you want to register, please please.. use the link I show.. as I will get some money from you if you register with me as the referal. Thank you :D

Thanks Bojan for the message. I just use his e-mail to convey the message, and I just change the links only. Hope you can join me soon. ;) hehe.. ...so Eunice, KF, SK, debu.. etc... if you happen to come across my post, please join.. hmm.. should I go and invite you over... hehe..

See below for more informations:

1. Go to link: http://www.alertpay.com/?FVxumjBv6LF4vyQAXKbZoA%3d%3d and register. But, BE CAREFUL! You have to write them your right name and surname! It's because you will transfer your earned dollars to account in bank in your country later, on your nam, and names have to be same. You don't need to worry, everything is highly secured, thousands of people are using alertpay for tranfering money and paying online, you can check it easily.

2. When you finish registering on alert pay, go to link: http://bux.to/?r=jnwk and register too. Here you don't need to write your right name and surname, only you have write same e-mail that you have written on alertpay when registering, so they can later transfer you earned money on your alertpay account. Earned money you can spend to buy something online (eBay for example, or buying premium accounts for online games – Ogame, Vendetta, etc.) or you can transfer it into your bank and use it some other way.

Just, please, don't forget to register by this links I have given to you, so I can get something from you too. You don't have anything from that, but I do. If you don't write me as your refferal (register by my link) they will sell you, and you will be someone elses refferal, so it's same for you, but not for me. I hope it's ok with you..

3. And the cashmachine starts! :) When you register, and open your bux.to account on link „Surf Ads“ you will see every day more than 10 Ads, and all you have to do is to click on every, and wait 30 seconds. Than you open next one. And you will get 1 cent for every ad you open! On link „My Stats“ you see money you have earned and everything else. When you earn your first 10$ you can transfer it to alertpay (it's minimum for transaction) but it's not that hard to earn them, you will see... ;)

That's all, everything else is up to you, more refferals you find for yourself later, it's more earning for you. You just give them your link for bux.to so they can register as your refferal, as I gave you...

If you have any other question, just write to me and ask, I am here to help you any way I can.

Life's formula

After living for more than 20 years in this fallen planet called earth, and after going through life stages - education , army, working ... - I am convinced, regardless of race and religion, the life's formula to success is:

1) You must have a good good memory. You will impress upon others when you can quote this and that and say out a lot of things. (You will also be able to remember the explanation should there is.) Ppl will think you are knowledge. Ppl won't care much if you understand what you know... because the world works this way --> PPL only want to know the "what", the "when" and the "how"... seldom ppl want to make the effort to know the "why"... I must be an idiot living my life to put much emphasize on the "why" but then I can remember things much better if I know the "why" mah... The almighty God designed me this way mah...what can I do... ya la... ppl say it is about yourself... if you are willing you can do it.and blah blah.. i think these ppl talk cock ... somethings no matter how much you put in your life to do it, you barely can reach that target.. if I ask these ppl to run like the top runner in the world.. are they able to do it? mai lai mai lai... haha

2) You must be a good talker. Ppl usually will be attracted to the ppl who talk well, nice things, fluent ..blah... like magic like that... the charismatic effect sia... no wonder the mega churches so power.. haha... Ya la... You much be talkative... of cos... must "smoke" well la.. some facts plus some imaginative = tata ... gets it? You must know what to say, when to say and how to say... extroverts usually have the advantages even if they are not really that good in work...

remember when you have good memory, you will be able to talk a lot ... it rely on the things, knowledge and things you see , heard and read... dun have to be really facts.. once you remember what you heard, see and read, you will be able to speak confidently even if you may have the facts wrong.. ppl normally will just accept them and tiam tiam seeing WOW you are so knowledgeable sia.. of cos.. the more discerning few will give these ppl a hard time but usually they don't want much trouble and so....

Thank you thank you..

this is how the world works..

if you care enough, pls correct me. i will listen but what you say may not convince me much.. but then i will still KIV... ppl have their own life experiences and go through life differently... even if we take 1 whole day to talk, also may not discuss finish de...

O LORD... I don't where you are and what you are doing right now... please end this world quick (hehe) or please transform me inside out quick..

Haiz.. the author is facing a depression right now... at the end of the tunnel is darkness no light leh.. :( I quote what my dear SK said: "life sux... and then you die..." oh.. haha

A Christian's life should be full of hope sia!! Where is the motivation? Where is the drive? Where is the formula?

不是努力就一定会成功!

VERY keen to change job!!

Haiz, I am quite keen to join this company (http://www.jobsdb.com/SG/EN/job.asp?R=JDBS098635399) as production supervisor (Lifescience-biochip). The only thing I hope is that it is near my house. I don't feel any job satisfaction working in my current company. I hate the system. The system crap!! Hate it! Taiwanese system... I hate it man! The reason making me hesitating to quit my current job is the location (no need to wake up so early man!! :D) and lack of experience. My interest is in bio area man... What should I decide on?? haiz..

Careers that I would enjoy

These are the career I think I would enjoy:

1. Police officer in the CID department

-> I enjoy solving mystery, busting those nasty, bad cunning guys' plans. Nabbing them and subjecting them to the laws of the land. Romans 13:1-2 states: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. "

Oh ya, no it is not due to the TV drama "Metamorphosis 破萤而出" that inspired me. But this show does enhance my liking of this type of career.

2. Teacher

-> I enjoy ... impacting ... ~ explanation to be given later ~

3. Full time missionary worker in the mission field

-> ~ explanation to be given later ~

4.

The above are just some of my dream careers. Due to some personal reasons, I may have to choose not to be in these professions.

Perverse lifestyles: unnatural law

In the past, people used to think homosexual - woman on woman, man on man, as a mental disorder and these people are deemed as abnormal. However, recently, experts and scientists are telling people that homosexual are no longer a mental disorder but are due to genetic disorder and these people are born this way. To a large extent, I do not agree with the recent explanation. Don't ask me to a small extent what I believe then and don't ask me to explain my stand. I am aware of such debates and only Someone who has the ultimate authority over all of the inhabitants will know the answer and has the ability to stop all these debates once and for all. (Oh, may that day come quickly.)

Let us not talk about homosexual. What about human on animal? (I do not know what the correct word to refer to this act) Do we still see them as being born with that preference? If homosexual can be viewed as normal after many years of arguments, "proving" and "deproving", what can we think of those people who are doing on animals? Should we see them as normal also?

Considering the theory of evolution, humans are evolved from apes. Thus humans were once animals, like those cow, horse and etc. This means human should be given the freedom to mate with animals who evolved much slower than us? Oh man, how flaw is the theory of evolution. Yes human do evolve overtime, but this is micro-evolving and not macro-evolving. How about the spiritual interpretation of life? Since in the past, all human were apes, then that means in the beginning (ops, there is no beginning for some religious group), all have bad karma?? Using the theory of evolution, we are only trying to interpret life physically without considering about the spiritual part. Anyway, we can't prove the theory of evolution - ask an expert or scientist if you don't believe. My advice is: Ask a neutral and knowledgeable one.

All right , back to the questions on the second paragraph. Perhaps yes, as the time goes by and as morality continue to degrade further - people will be free to do whatever they like and there will be no "right and wrong" (by this, I am talking about God's natural laws). By then, the bible (ok, I know there are other religion views also. I will not include this here as it will make the biblical views on these perverse lifestyles more complicated) would definitely be the number one enemy and people who are advocating the biblical point would be deemed as outcast. (This day would come eventually - believe me. The question is when.)

[Take a look at this recent news on homosexuality in California. Shockingly surprised. I was taken aback when I read it. What in the world is going on man?! *Shake Head* A follow-up of this recent news: Click here]

Maybe we are gradually entering into the "Noah" age again. And how long would God tolerate and finally intervene into human history (for the 3rd time and the last time, according to my own understanding) again?

God knows. We were given this warning "Watch!".

Is money really the root of all evil?

I really want to correct anybody who still thinks "Money is the root of all evil.". No it isn't! At first I also thought so. 1 Timothy 6:10 says:"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."

To quote somebody who wrote "There is no inherant sanctity in being poor. There is no sanctity in being rich either. However, the manner in which we become poor or rich has very much to do with virtue or the lack."

To quote another: "The only thing evil about money is how some people use it or worship it. Now, money, like most things, is just a thing, a tool. It's how you look at and how you use His things (for all things belong to God) that makes the difference here. As in all things with God, motive , if not being everything, is certainly the main thing!"

Some food for thoughts

No money no smile? Got money got smile? More money more smile?

Your best friend is the one who tells you the most truth?

The person who loves you most tells you the most truth?

Any thoughts or comments? hmm..

About making a difference nowadays

A real conversation between two christians

A: I don't just want to be an observer. Too boring, and I'd rather make a difference in the world. It's too easy just to be an observer, and to say that is, IMO, a sign of giving up on making a difference.

B: Not only in the christian community wanting to make a difference. Other organised religions and the society wants to make a differences. When the different differences come together, then there will be a clash?

Everybody is talking about making a difference nowadays. Yup, I want too. Go the Church way or the world way? I know the answer is obvious.

A: And I'd rather try to win at the game everyone else is playing, than to just sit back and watch them play it.

"Listen to musics" announcement

I have corrected the errors - the Chinese characters error - at the Listen to musics section on the right column bar. You may not be able to listen to some of the musics there. I will correct it once I have found the solution and have the time and will to do it.

When people ask you questions . . .

When people ask you questions, I used to think that they are just concern of you and want to know more about you. But years of experience tell me I was wrong. They are just doing some intelligence stuff - either to their own benefits or to use it for "gossiping" purposes. I still maintain that they just want to catch up with my life .. but hey .. through the conversation, you would be able to tell who is and isn't. Most of them ain't. I don't know... I don't wish to say too much on this .. this is sensitive. I think I'm getting more and more less trusting of people.. They always have hidden agenda and they will use you until they have what they want... haiz..

I don't know. I think I am too naive ... but I'm changing .... arg .......

Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps I am too sensitive.

ORD lor!!

1 week after my ORD, I blog about it. haha.. (One thing sian is that during the period I was clearing leave, I became down with fever.)

I never expect my remaining NS liability was that enjoyable. Compare it with my previous unit, it was like heaven and hell!! The army really changed a lot. Besides NSFs being treated more human, the area cleaning part like no need to do so much le. Actually I don't know, because I am comparing what I saw in my new camp with my previous camp.

Life was good. Going back after graduation really makes a lot of different. I were being treated differently. haha.. actually this is not accurate ... it depends on which unit you are in and who is your boss!!

Now I have my IPPT to worry... working le where got time and mood to train up. :S

Anyway, ORD lor. :D
